A Cake Smash with a Metallic Balloon Garland
Teagan’s mama chose her cake smash theme before her baby girl was even born. She saw a birthday session of mine with an amethyst balloon garland and knew that if she had a little girl one day, she wanted something just like that for her birthday portraits. So when it came time to plan the cake smash, we knew exactly what we wanted to do!
She found this gorgeous dress with metallic hearts on it, and I coordinated the colors to match. I was thrilled to find heart confetti in the exact same colors and the exact same size as the hearts on her dress! It almost looks like the hearts spill off of Teagan’s dress and onto the floor, doesn’t it?!
Teagan loved her cake and she dug right into it! I secretly love it when babies knock the cake stand over because we get such fun photos with them playing with the cake and squishing it into the floor. Plus the “oops, was I supposed to do that?” look they give when they realize it fell down is precious!
Every cake smash session includes family portraits, and in the winter we do those in the white & cream studio. I love these classic family portraits that will match the ones we did a few years ago for big brother’s first birthday!

Luci's Pastel Balloon Cake Smash
When it’s your birthday, why not go all in? Luci went face first into the cake, and it was priceless!
We celebrated Luci’s first birthday with a simple pastel themed cake smash. A balloon garland, confetti, and ONE letters came together for a minimalist look to make this sweet birthday girl the star of the show. Plus, her tutu matched the decor perfectly — I love it when it all comes together like that! Doesn’t she look like a real life Cabbage Patch Doll???
We captured family portraits with the birthday girl, just like we do for all of our cake smash sessions. In the warm weather I love heading outdoors to a park just a few miles from the studio. It was the perfect location to let these sisters cuddle, giggle, and just be all-around adorable together!
Those two bottom teeth peeking out just kill me! One of the things I love most about photographing the baby stage is showing the babies in transition — with just a few teeth in a gummy mouth, their first curl, those cute leg rolls that will disappear once they start walking, or the most adorable finger and elbow dimples. All of these details are classically BABY, and they are details you’ll want to remember long after they are gone.

A Summertime Family Portrait Session in Saratoga Springs with an Outdoor Cake Smash
What a cute family! This mama was excited to capture some summertime portraits for a mommy & me session, and she dressed her little ones in coordinating nautical outfits to match the dress that she found for her daughter. We had a blast running around Spa State Park for their portrait session, and the kids were all smiles.
I always love capturing a few extra special mom & baby portraits, and I love how cuddly Ronan was with his mama! Just look at his adorable little smile, and those cute baby teeth!
We celebrated Ronan’s first birthday with an outdoor cake smash! We typically do our cake smash sessions in our Saratoga Springs studio, but due to the reopening restrictions after covid and the timeline of this session, we opted for an outdoor session for everyone’s health & safety. It did not disappoint! We did a fun little beachy theme for the birthday boy, and he loved digging into his cake!

Our Latest baby plan graduate - a pretty floral cake smash for Ella
We have another Baby Plan graduate! And ohhhhh my goodness, she is just perfectly adorable and the cutest little one year old you ever did see!
If you haven’t heard about our Baby Plan, it’s a way to celebrate all of your little one’s milestones with beautiful portraits throughout the first year. From a newborn session, to a sitter session, all the way through a cake smash with family portraits at the end of the year! We even include maternity portraits, making it FOUR SESSIONS to document all of the special moments in your baby’s first twelve months. I love working with our Baby Plan clients so much, and I only take on a few per month to give them all the attention they deserve!
Ella turned one, and she was very excited about it! We started with family portraits, soaking up the last rays of sunshine of the summer while celebrating her first steady steps with mom and dad.
Then we headed back to the studio for a very special cake smash filled with fluffy pink peonies and twinkle lights — two of my favorite things!
Don’t you just love those cute little rolls on her arms? And the finger dimples make my heart melt! So, so sweet!
We finished her session with a bathtub splash, and she loved getting all sudsy and playing with the rubber duckie!

An All White Boho Cake Smash with Saratoga Springs Baby Photographer
World, meet Milani. The happiest baby girl who just turned ONE!
This little sweetheart joined me at our Saratoga Springs portrait studio for her first birthday session, and I loved celebrating with a simple boho cake smash with lots of white and just a hint of blush pink and greenery.
We used our teepee (check out our super popular DIY post here!) and some twinkle lights, and then Milani was center stage!
She was so cute and kept wanting to share her cake with her parents!
And when she clapped for herself, she melted everyone’s hearts!
A Rustic Winter Wonderland Cake Smash | Saratoga Springs, Albany & Boston Baby Photographer
I first met sweet little Addison Elizabeth exactly one year ago at the hospital when she was only twenty-four hours old. Addison was my very first Fresh 48 session that I ever photographed, and it was such an honor when her mama (also a photographer!) invited me to capture these moments for them in the hospital as they got to know their baby girl.
Following babies and their families throughout their journey during the first year always makes my heart so happy. I have loved watching Addison grow this year. Getting together for coffee dates with her mother and FaceTime calls where Addi would get so excited and start clapping her hands to see the screen -- those are the moments when I feel so lucky to have clients as friends, and friends as clients.
For Addison's first birthday we planned a rustic winter wonderland cake smash. This was so much fun to put together using neutral tones and natural materials -- burlap & wood were the perfect combinations to add a little bit of texture to her backdrop! I love the hanging snowflakes, and Addi was definitely intrigued by them, too.
But before the cake smash, we pulled out my teepee for some airy and whimsical portraits of the birthday girl. She may or may not have been bribed with puffs to stay on the rug when we were taking her pictures (seriously, puffs and Cheerios save the day at every single session!).
Love the teepee? Check out our DIY tutorial to make your own!
When your mama is a photographer, of course you get a few photos together with your wooden camera toy!
If you loved Addison's rustic winter wonderland cake smash and her portraits with the teepee, you will love this boho-inspired cake smash with twins!
